Mount Ayr delivered a commanding performance Friday, securing wins in both boys and girls duals against the Creston Panthers on the Panthers’ senior night at Crestmoor Golf Club.

The competitive showdown featured standout individual efforts as well, with Creston’s Marshall Long edging out Mount Ayr’s Avery Wolfe for boys medalist honors by a single stroke. Long posted a 40, narrowly beating Wolfe’s 41, while teammate Garrett Troutwine added a solid 44 for Creston. In junior varsity play, both teams saw a tie with Javin Hyde of Creston and Mount Ayr’s Carter Levine shooting matching 44s.

Girls Side Dominated by Mount Ayr State Champ Shaffer

Mount Ayr’s defending state champion Jaylee Shaffer led the girls varsity, shooting a remarkable one-over-par 38 as medalist. Her teammate Izzy Gilbertson followed with a 48, taking runner-up honors. Creston’s Ricci Johnston trailed closely at 49, underscoring a tight competition.

The senior night celebration also honored Izzy Spencer, Chasse Downing, Ethan Holliday, Marshall Long, Kylen Parsons, Gabe Blazek, and Kaizer Smith, recognizing their contributions to Creston’s golf program.

In boys varsity, Mount Ayr posted a team total of 174, with Wolfe leading and strong supporting rounds by Jaxson Greene (43), Tanner Streit (45), Drew Graham (45), Adler Reed (49), and Tytan Gourley (51). Creston fell behind at 183, despite Long’s medalist round, with performances from Kylen Parsons (49), Branden Spencer (50), Gabe Blazek (51), and Chasse Downing (54).

The girls varsity match reflected a similar margin, Mount Ayr scoring 218 to Creston’s 234. Besides Shaffer and Gilbertson, Mount Ayr’s Claire Routh (63), Alyssa Doolittle (69), and Dallas Newton (71) contributed crucial points. Creston’s lineup featured Johnston, Kennedy Strider (61), Isabella Spencer (62), Brooke Huck (62), and Nora Barton (67).
