BREAKING: Joseph Angelo Legueri, a cherished educator and family man, has passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, at the age of 81. His journey through Alzheimer’s was marked by resilience, humor, and a deep love for family, friends, and his favorite treats.
Legueri, who spent over three decades inspiring students at Duluth Cathedral, retired in 2001. Known for his quirky catchphrase, “The heck you say,” he left an indelible mark on countless lives throughout his teaching career. His legacy continues through those he taught and mentored.
In a beautiful testament to love, Joseph married Shirley in 1962, after charming her while driving the after-school activity bus. Their 58 years of marriage were filled with adventures, memories, and the joys of raising two children, Tony and Gina Haggard.
Joseph was a proud grandfather to Thomas, Cooper, and Kelsie, dedicating countless hours to teach them the values of silliness and love. He was the beloved only son of Dorothy and Angelo Legueri of Nashwauk, where he also had a playful relationship with his four sisters: Patti Williams, Jeannie Sunnarborg, Margie Legueri, and Marianne Cable.
His remarkable talents extended beyond the classroom. Joseph was an avid builder, constructing the family home nestled in the woods, and he was passionate about automobiles, particularly his prized 1948 Studebaker. A prolific writer, Joseph’s stories and humor will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of traditional services, the family invites friends to celebrate Joseph’s life in a way that reflects his spirit. Gatherings will be held where attendees are encouraged to share a laugh, raise a glass, and recount stories—true or not—just as Joseph would have loved.
This heartfelt tribute reflects the values he lived by: joy, laughter, and connection. His family expresses gratitude for the love and support they’ve received during this time.
As friends and family gather to honor his memory, they will undoubtedly carry forward the lessons he imparted and the love he shared. Stay tuned for more updates as the family makes arrangements for these celebrations of life.
