Durango Girls Lacrosse Responds with Crushing 13-2 Win on Senior Night
The Durango High School girls lacrosse team rebounded swiftly from their biggest loss this season with a commanding 13-2 victory over Santa Fe Prep on senior night. Fans witnessed the Demons dominate every facet of the game Friday evening, asserting total control from the opening whistle and firmly announcing their place as a formidable contender this season.
After a tough defeat to Palmer Ridge last week, Durango came out with urgency, scoring three goals within the first four minutes. Their aggressive defense stifled the Blue Griffins, thwarting every attempt to generate offensive momentum. Santa Fe Prep never settled into their rhythm as Durango’s defense relentlessly applied pressure, secured ground balls, and triggered fast breaks throughout the game.
Dominant Defense and Explosive Offense Propel Durango
The Demons entered halftime with a commanding 7-goal lead and cruised to victory in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. Junior forward Indie Eaton was a standout performer, netting four goals and two assists. Freshman Janelle Dingler contributed a balanced offensive effort with three goals and three assists, while senior Taylor Babcock scored three times and added an assist. Junior goaltender Jody Holden made multiple key saves, finishing with six stops to keep the Blue Griffins at bay.
Coach Eric Elliot praised his team’s senior leaders and their critical role this season. “I think I’m undefeated on senior nights and so is the team, so that’s pretty good,” Elliot said. He highlighted sophomore Keelyn Reynolds, who executed what could be a school record with 10 caused turnovers. “It’s that hockey mentality – she’s anticipating passes and jumping in front of them, setting up layers of defense on every play,” Elliot explained.
Seniors Shine in Memorable Night
The game’s final quarter showcased the spirit and leadership of Durango’s senior class. Babcock assisted on Eaton’s goal, and senior Scarlett Ramsey scored her second goal of the season. After the game, Durango celebrated Babcock, Laurel Dondlinger, and Ramsey in a heartfelt senior night ceremony, underscoring their vital contributions to the team’s success.
“Their leadership off the field has been exceptional,” Elliot noted. “With 10 new players on the team, it’s their guidance that’s elevated everyone and made it hard to tell who’s a newcomer now.”
Looking Ahead: Next Big Test at Home Against Telluride
Durango improves to 8-3 overall, securing a critical morale-boosting win. Santa Fe Prep drops to 0-2. The Demons will look to build on this momentum when they face Telluride at home this Wednesday at 4 p.m. Mountain Time. With an explosive offense and stout defense, Durango is shaping up to make a serious run in the remainder of the season.
As the season unfolds, Montana and US lacrosse fans should watch this young team thrive under pressure, harnessing fresh talent and veteran leadership alike. The Demons have clearly found their stride and aim to continue dominating their competition in 2026.
