With an average age of 70, the squad’s 370 volunteers demonstrate that age is no barrier to service and heroism. Chief Bardell captured the essence of their mission, stating, “The truth is, the true heroes are the 370 volunteers.” He further remarked, “Just because we’re retired doesn’t mean we’re done,” highlighting the ongoing contributions of the squad members.

In addition to recognizing the Sun City Center Emergency Squad, the Board also honored Andrew Emerton, founder of Breathe Florida. Emerton was commended for his nonprofit work aimed at empowering high school students with life-saving skills through free CPR certification programs.
