Carol A. Koch, a respected community leader and musician, passed away peacefully at the Phoebe Health Center on January 26, 2024, at the age of 84. Her passing followed a brief illness. Koch had a profound impact on her community in Wernersville, Pennsylvania, where she was deeply involved in her church and local activities.

Born on November 2, 1941, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Carol was the daughter of the late Rev. William and E. Kathryn Marburger. She graduated from Blue Mountain High School in 1959 and went on to earn a degree in music education from Susquehanna University in 1963. Early in her career, she worked as an instrumental music teacher at Blue Mountain, inspiring countless students with her passion for music.

A Lifelong Journey of Service and Faith

Later, Carol transitioned her career to the corporate sector, working as a claims adjuster for CNA Insurance in Reading. After several years, she relocated to Orlando, Florida, where she continued her professional journey. Following the death of her husband, Theodore R. Koch, in 2001, Carol returned to Pennsylvania to be closer to her family.

Her strong faith played a significant role in guiding her through this new chapter of life. Carol enrolled at the Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia and was commissioned as an Associate in Ministry at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wernersville in 2010. Her responsibilities included positions as Administrative Assistant, Bell Choir Director, and Parish Education Director.

On May 4, 2025, Carol was ordained to Word and Service in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) as a deacon. Her commitment to music and ministry led her to establish a bell choir at Trinity, which became a beloved feature of the church’s musical offerings. Her contributions to the church and community have left a lasting legacy.
