TikToker Reveals Grocery Price Hikes Since Biden’s Presidency
A TikToker known as TheEggWatch has drawn attention by comparing grocery prices from the final days of Joe Biden‘s presidency to current prices, revealing significant increases. The findings come at a time when Donald Trump, who is campaigning for the 2024 presidential election, has vowed to reduce grocery prices if elected, stating, “When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on day one.”
In a recent video, TheEggWatch shared his experience shopping at a grocery store in New Jersey. He documented prices for essential items at the end of Biden’s term and later returned to the same store to purchase the same items nine months later. The results were stark and raised eyebrows. For example, the price of boneless New York strip steak surged from $13.99 per pound to $16.99 per pound.
TheEggWatch expressed the impact of these price increases, stating, “Everyone has a supermarket price horror story. This affects people in many different ways. For some people, that extra 20% grocery bill is a very large burden.” The data aligns with broader trends, as grocery prices have consistently risen since the pandemic, with August 2025 recording the largest increase since 2022.
The video sparked discussions online about the rising costs of living and the effectiveness of political promises. Many viewers reacted to the findings, with some supporting Trump’s pledges while others pointed out the economic realities that have not changed. “Crickets from MAGA now. They cannot mention one policy or one change in the last nine months that has been better for any American citizen,” one commenter noted.
TheEggWatch highlighted that many defenders of Trump often argue that presidents do not control prices. “Many of them say, ‘Well, presidents don’t control prices,’ but that’s exactly the point. Trump, the president himself, said, ‘I will lower prices.’ Whether a president can or can’t is a different debate. I’m doing this because he said he would,” he remarked.
This ongoing conversation about grocery prices and economic policies underscores the significant pressures consumers face as inflation continues to affect essential goods. TheEggWatch’s documentation serves as a reminder of how prices can fluctuate and the real impact these changes have on everyday life.
As the political landscape evolves ahead of the 2024 election, the focus on grocery prices may further intensify, with voters keen to see if promises translate into tangible improvements in their daily expenditures.
