Southeastern Louisiana Secures 10-7 Victory Over Incarnate Word

Southeastern Louisiana delivered a pivotal defensive performance, defeating Incarnate Word 10-7 in a closely contested matchup held in San Antonio on November 4, 2023. The victory marked Southeastern Louisiana’s first win in San Antonio since 2016, and it solidified their position in the Southland Conference with a record of 8-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play.

The Lions took an early lead in the game, scoring the first ten points. Guillermo Garcia Rodriguez opened the scoring with a 22-yard field goal, followed by a 37-yard touchdown pass from Carson Camp to Deantre Jackson in the second half. Camp completed 199 yards in passing, showcasing his ability to lead the offense effectively.

Incarnate Word, struggling to find momentum, finally got on the scoreboard late in the fourth quarter. After a lengthy 10-play, 99-yard drive, Timothy Carter capped it off with a 1-yard touchdown run, narrowing the score to 10-7 with just over four minutes remaining.

Despite a quick three-and-out from Southeastern Louisiana following the touchdown, Incarnate Word had a chance to level the game. The team drove 61 yards in 11 plays, setting up a critical 38-yard field goal attempt. However, the kick deflected off the crossbar with only seven seconds left, sealing the victory for the Lions.

On the other side, EJ Colson, the quarterback for Incarnate Word, had a challenging day, completing 16 of 24 passes for 158 yards. The team’s rushing attack featured Jaylon Spears, who tallied 97 yards, while Carter contributed 83 yards along with his touchdown.
