Nevada Treasury Awards 2025 Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Scholarships

The Nevada Treasury has announced the recipients of the 2025 Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Scholarship, which supports students pursuing careers in education. Each recipient will receive up to $5,000 to aid their studies at various institutions in the state. This year, four outstanding students were selected: Alma Lucia Lundstrom Lopez from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; Gabriella Minoletti from the University of Nevada, Reno; Gage Steilman from Great Basin College; and Izabella Silver, also from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Zach Conine, Nevada State Treasurer, expressed pride in the recipients, emphasizing their commitment to education. “By choosing careers in education, they are committing to a noble path, one that will shape the lives of hundreds of students in our state for years to come,” he stated.
Profiles of the Recipients
Alma Lucia Lundstrom Lopez, an aspiring elementary school teacher, is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she maintains a 4.0 GPA. A graduate with high honors from the College of Southern Nevada, she has received numerous academic awards, including the Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship and the UNLV Signature Scholarship. Overcoming challenges such as undiagnosed dyslexia and ADHD, Lundstrom Lopez is passionate about advocating for students with learning differences.
“My teaching philosophy centers on differentiated instruction, multisensory learning, and fostering a growth mindset so every child feels valued, capable, and inspired,” she explained. Her goal is to create an inclusive classroom environment where all students can excel both academically and personally.
Gabriella Minoletti hails from Eureka, Nevada, and is a sixth-generation resident. She is pursuing dual degrees in agricultural sciences and secondary education at the University of Nevada, Reno. Minoletti has held leadership positions as the former Nevada Future Farmers of America (FFA) state vice president and is currently an intern with Nevada Teach agriculture. With a focus on agriculture education, she is dedicated to helping students appreciate the importance of leadership and community.
“As I enter my last year of undergrad, I look forward to stepping into the classroom full-time, continuing to strengthen the Nevada FFA Association,” Minoletti remarked. She aims to inspire her students just as her father has inspired her.
Gage Steilman, who is from Elko, is pursuing a degree in secondary education with a focus on English at Great Basin College. He has consistently made the dean’s list and has received scholarships such as the Millennium Scholarship and the Nevada Promise Scholarship. Currently, he is student-teaching at Adobe Middle School and assisting with the Elko High School speech and debate program. Steilman plans to further his education with a master’s degree and potentially a doctorate in English literature.
“I am grateful not only to be considered but to be selected as a recipient of the Memorial Scholarship,” he said. “This opportunity reinforces my commitment to education and reminds me why I chose this path: to make a lasting impact on students’ lives, just as my teachers have made on mine.”
Izabella Silver, a fifth-year undergraduate at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is majoring in secondary education with a concentration in English and minoring in human services. She was recognized as UNLV’s 2023 Sophomore of the Year, demonstrating resilience by continuing her studies while experiencing homelessness.
“I am committed to educational excellence and social impact,” Silver stated. “I aspire to grow continuously not only as an educator but as a person and a professional.”
