Dog Rescued After 100-Foot Plunge from Scottish Cliff

A two-year-old collie named Whisp was rescued after falling nearly 100 feet down a cliff on the Scottish island of Shetland. The incident occurred on Thursday near Heylor, prompting a swift response from HM Coastguard.

At approximately 11:10 a.m., the coastguard received reports of the fallen dog and quickly mobilized a rescue team. Due to the challenging terrain, rescuers could not approach the site from the seaside, which necessitated the use of specialized rope equipment to hoist Whisp back to safety. The operation took around three hours, culminating in the successful retrieval of the dog from a height of over 98 feet.

Despite the harrowing fall, Whisp emerged “remarkably unscathed,” according to a statement from the coastguard. Photographs shared by the rescue team depicted the jubilant dog posing with its rescuers, clearly overjoyed to be reunited with its owner.

“This incident highlights the dedication and skill of our coastguard teams,” the statement noted. “Thankfully, a happy ending for Whisp.” The successful rescue has drawn attention to the potential dangers of the rugged terrain in Shetland, reminding pet owners to exercise caution when walking their dogs near cliffs and steep ledges.

Whisp’s story serves as a testament to the resilience of animals and the commitment of rescue teams dedicated to ensuring their safety.
