Woodside Dad Opens Kung Fu Tea in Redwood City on Oct. 27

UPDATE: A new Kung Fu Tea location is set to open in Redwood City on October 27, 2023, addressing a pressing need for local boba tea options. Drew Shih, a Woodside father of four girls, embarked on this venture after growing frustrated with long drives to satisfy his family’s boba cravings.
Shih’s daughters, aged 11 to 19, each have distinct boba preferences, leading to frequent trips to various tea shops in the area, including San Mateo. Realizing there was no convenient option nearby, Shih and his family—who have lived in Korea and Taiwan—decided to create a solution. “It became sort of an obsession,” he stated, highlighting their commitment to bringing authentic Taiwanese boba to a broader audience.
After researching various franchises, they chose Kung Fu Tea, a national chain known for its expansive menu of nearly 70 drinks. This includes unique offerings such as honey oolong and winter melon milk teas, rose hip lemonade, and taro slushies. Shih’s daughters have been actively involved in taste-testing the menu, ensuring it meets their high standards.
The family plans to soft open the new location at 593 D Woodside Road before a grand opening event on November 15, 2023. Currently, the only nearby Kung Fu Tea is in San Jose, making this a much-anticipated addition to the Redwood City area.
Residents can stay updated on the new store’s offerings and events by following them on Instagram at @kft_woodsideroad. With the growing popularity of boba tea, this new spot is expected to attract significant local interest and become a community favorite.
As the soft opening date approaches, excitement is building among boba enthusiasts and families alike. This development not only fills a gap in the local food scene but also provides a venue where families can gather and enjoy a wide range of delicious beverages.
