Wolf Pack Fall to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in Season Opener, 5-2

UPDATE: The Hartford Wolf Pack suffered a disappointing defeat in their season opener, falling to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 5-2 at PeoplesBank Arena on October 13, 2023. The Penguins stormed ahead with an early three-goal lead, leaving the Wolf Pack scrambling to catch up.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton struck first, with Rafael Harvey-Pinard and Atley Calvert scoring in the first period, followed by Avery Hayes extending the lead to 3-0 just minutes into the second. The Wolf Pack finally responded when Gabe Perreault found the net at 16:41 of the second period, with assists from Dylan Roobroeck and Blake Hillman.

The excitement surged when Adam Sykora pulled Hartford within one goal at 6:50 of the third period, aided by Derrick Pouliot and Conner Mackey. However, the Penguins quickly regained control as Calvert netted his second goal at 11:53, effectively dashing the Wolf Pack’s hopes. Tristan Broz sealed the victory with an empty-netter at 17:53.
