Walter Bernard Ament, 93, Passes Away Surrounded by Family

UPDATE: Walter Bernard Ament, aged 93, has passed away on October 28, 2025, surrounded by his family at his daughter’s home in Minnesota. This beloved community figure leaves behind a legacy of love, talent, and storytelling that touched many lives.

Born on June 5, 1932, in Bluffton, MN, Walter was a multifaceted individual—a farmer, miner, logger, fisherman, gardener, and refrigeration expert. However, his greatest roles were as a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He married his pen pal and best friend, Dorothy Blotti, on January 21, 1956, and together they built a beautiful family in Morgan Park, MN.

Walter is remembered for his vibrant storytelling and mentorship. He maintained close ties with his nine siblings and family on the west coast, ensuring that his rich legacy would continue to inspire future generations. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents; eight siblings; and his daughter, Judith Anne.

Surviving him are his sister, Mary Alice Otto; daughters Pamella Wallgren and Mary Johnson; granddaughters Emily Wallgren, Kate Johnson, and Anna Johnson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, including his best friend, Chuck.

The family expressed heartfelt gratitude to the hospice staff at Essentia Health, particularly Brandy, Cindy, and Nate, for their compassionate care. They also acknowledged the support from the Care Planning Institute provided by the VA and the drivers from Medspeed.

Visitation will take place on November 7, 2025, from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, located at 2410 Morris Thomas Road. Father Anthony Craig will officiate the service, followed by burial at Oneota Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, reflecting Walter’s commitment to helping others. Arrangements are being handled by Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home.
