Rector Rev. Esiquiel Sanchez has urged the community to embrace their faith and join the pilgrimage. “I have been calling on the community to take some courage and come to the pilgrimage,” he stated. “But if they don’t feel safe for any reason, it’s OK.” To alleviate fears, many services will be livestreamed, ensuring that everyone can participate in the festivities safely.
In a proactive move, more than 400 volunteers have been trained to assist attendees and create a welcoming environment. The shrine will prioritize the safety of all visitors, with uniformed police present to maintain peace. “Whenever people see a uniformed officer, they are there to make sure everyone is safe,” Sanchez emphasized.
Pastor Sean Hanson noted that the episcopal diocese will participate in ecumenical services, offering prayers for community members unable to attend due to fear or illness. This gesture is intended to foster unity and support among attendees.
The Department of Homeland Security has reassured the public, stating, “ICE does not raid churches—regardless of if it is the holiday season or not.” This statement aims to provide some comfort amid rising tensions.
