Turtle Dies from Injuries After Disturbing Mall Incident

UPDATE: A turtle has tragically died after being violently slammed to the ground at the Valencia Town Center mall in Santa Clarita on June 14, 2023. Authorities confirm this devastating incident unfolded around 2:30 PM when deputies responded to reports of a man disturbing turtles in a pond at The Patios, an outdoor shopping area.

According to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, security footage captured the moment a 34-year-old transient from Van Nuys seized one of the turtles and forcefully threw it to the ground. The turtle suffered severe injuries and later died while under the care of the Los Angeles County Animal Care & Control. Deputy Mariela Picard, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s station, confirmed the tragic news in an email to local media.

This shocking act of animal cruelty has sparked outrage and calls for justice. Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation, which includes a necropsy to ascertain the exact cause of death. “Animal Care & Control responded swiftly to transport the turtle to an emergency veterinary hospital for treatment and potential rehabilitation,” stated Picard.
