TMSA Taekwondo Dominates National Capitol Open with 14 Medals

TMSA Taekwondo Club Secures 14 Medals at National Capitol Open in Virginia

TMSA Taekwondo Club has captured the spotlight at the 2026 National Capitol Open Taekwondo Championship with an impressive haul of 14 medals, including 6 golds, 5 silvers, and 3 bronzes. The competition took place over two days, April 24–25, in Virginia, drawing top youth martial artists from across the country.

Representing the club were 14 student-athletes ranging from elementary to high school levels, each securing a podium finish in a rare one-to-one conversion of competitors to medals. This dominant performance highlights the depth and effectiveness of TMSA’s structured youth training program and ongoing investment in foundational skills development.

Youth Talent Shines With Early Training and Discipline

Many of the medal winners have completed nearly three years of disciplined training, a fact credited by program organizers for the athletes’ consistency and technical maturity. Observers noted TMSA participants showcased poise and control well beyond their age brackets, reflecting a robust coaching framework under Coach Bastug.

“We are incredibly proud of our students—not only for their medals but for their discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship,” said Bastug. “This marks a milestone and sets a foundation for sustained success.”

Gold medal winners spanned younger competitors including A. Marikanti (1st Grade), Y. Senthilkumar (6th Grade), and Z. Keskin (5th Grade). Silver medals extended to older age groups and the high school team, showing competitive strength throughout. Bronze medals rounded out the team’s strong presence across divisions.

Community Support and Institutional Backing Key to Success

Family engagement played a crucial role, with 10 of 14 athletes accompanied by relatives who created a spirited and uplifting atmosphere. This strong community involvement aligns with TMSA’s philosophy of fostering both skill and support networks.

The team also received high honors from tournament leadership. Grand Master Hyo Joo Lee awarded TMSA a large trophy and special recognition for being the first high school team to compete in the event, signaling an important shift allowing school-based teams into elite martial arts circuits traditionally led by independent clubs.

Program leaders extended thanks to the institutions supporting the team, including TMSA Triangle High School Principal Mr. Alden and TMSA Apex Principal Mr. Yuksekkaya, alongside dedicated staff members. This collaboration exemplifies how academic and extracurricular programs are working together to develop youth leadership and engagement through martial arts.

Looking Ahead: TMSA Set to Build Momentum in National Circuits

The results from this national championship position TMSA Taekwondo Club as a rising force in youth martial arts, with a proven training model and a balanced pipeline of talent. The team’s success is a strong indication of future achievements in upcoming regional and national competitions.

This latest achievement underscores a nationwide trend where structured youth martial arts programs combine skill development, family involvement, and institutional support to shape resilient and high-performing athletes.
