UPDATE: In a thrilling first-round matchup of the NJSIAA/Xfinity South Jersey, Group 3 tournament, Takiesse Barnes led the Pleasantville High School football team to a stunning 23-14 victory over Delsea earlier today. Barnes’ explosive performance included three touchdowns and 98 rushing yards, solidifying his team’s place in the semifinals.
The game turned in the second quarter when Barnes scored his first touchdown on a 5-yard run, lifting Pleasantville to an 8-7 lead after Semaj Dozier added a two-point conversion. The momentum continued in the third quarter as Barnes pushed the score to 16-7 with another touchdown, this time from just 1 yard out, plus another successful conversion.
As tensions escalated, Delsea fought back, narrowing the gap to 16-14 late in the fourth quarter. However, Barnes sealed the game with his third touchdown, a decisive 5-yard run, ensuring a comfortable lead for Pleasantville.
Pleasantville, now the third seed, is set to face second-seeded Cedar Creek in the semifinals on November 8, where they aim to continue their impressive run in the tournament.
Delsea initially took control of the game with an 86-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Milo Gebhard, followed by a 17-yard TD pass to Nahsir Hart, making it a nail-biting contest. Despite their efforts, Delsea could not regain the lead, falling short in a competitive showdown.
