BREAKING: Swampscott is set to launch its first-ever Festival of Trees, starting on December 1 and running through December 6. Hosted by the Recreation Department at the former Clarke Elementary School, this festive event promises to bring the community together for a celebration of creativity and holiday spirit.
The festival will be open daily from 4 PM to 8 PM from December 1 to December 5, and from 12 PM to 6 PM on December 6. Recreation Director Charlotte Daher de Garcia expressed her excitement about this inaugural event, stating, “It’s something that, growing up, I’ve attended in various towns and cities. Having the space at Clarke Elementary School was a perfect excuse to bring it to town.”
Visitors can explore a dazzling display of holiday trees, engage in crafts, and enjoy the festive atmosphere—all at no cost. “Community members can come, view the trees, and make crafts; it’s a nice way for people to get into the holiday spirit,” Daher de Garcia added. Attendees will be greeted by “holiday helpers,” members of the Town’s Senior Tax Work-Off program, enhancing the community feel of the event.
While entry is free, attendees will have the option to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to take home a Christmas tree. Raffle tickets will be available at $5 for 25 tickets. “People can simply come to view the trees, though if they do buy tickets, they can leave them with the trees that they like,” Daher de Garcia explained.
The raffle drawing will take place the week following December 6, with proceeds supporting the Recreation Department’s programs and events at Clarke. Daher de Garcia emphasized the long-term vision for the festival, stating, “Our hope is that as the festival becomes a holiday tradition, we’ll be able to invite local nonprofits and community groups to apply to be beneficiaries in the years ahead.”
For those wishing to contribute, donations of trees or wreaths can be made online at https://swampscottma.myrec.com/info/default.aspx, with setup scheduled for November 30. Daher de Garcia hopes the festival will foster joy within the community: “I hope it helps get them in the holiday spirit. It’s just one more thing that the Town can offer people.”
This unique event is not just a chance to enjoy holiday decorations but also an opportunity to connect with local culture and creativity.
