SCV Water Launches Urgent Gardening Club for Community in 2026

UPDATE: The Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency has just announced the launch of the SCV Water Gardening Club, a community-centric program set to debut in 2026. This initiative promises a year-long series of expert-led workshops designed to empower residents in creating beautiful, sustainable, and water-efficient landscapes tailored to the Santa Clarita Valley.

The Gardening Club kicks off with its inaugural workshop on Saturday, January 31, from 9-11 a.m., at 23780 Pine Street, Newhall. The first session, titled “Intro to Container Gardening: Veggies, Herbs & Pollinator Plants,” will provide invaluable tips for growing food and pollinator-friendly plants in compact spaces. This workshop is open to gardeners of all skill levels, making it an inclusive opportunity for the community.

According to Matt Dickens, sustainability manager at SCV Water, “The Gardening Club is about more than plants — it’s about building community.” By bringing residents together throughout the year, the program aims to foster connections with local experts and equip participants with practical skills to develop beautiful, water-efficient landscapes.

Workshops will cover an extensive range of topics, including container gardening, native plant selection, landscape design, composting, edible planting, and wildfire-resilient landscaping. The SCV Water Gardening Club builds on the agency’s popular landscape and conservation workshops, reimagining them as a cohesive club experience that encourages ongoing learning and hands-on participation.

Most workshops will occur on Saturdays and will be offered in both in-person and virtual formats. The 2026 lineup includes exciting options such as hands-on design workshops, bilingual lawn replacement classes, kids’ gardening activities, and a year-end celebration for club participants.

Upcoming topics for the club include:
– “Native Plant Arranging: Beauty Meets Sustainability”
– “Landscape Design Workshop Series (Two Parts)”
– “Composting 101”
– “Top 100 Plants for the Santa Clarita Valley”
– “Kids’ Bug Snug Class”
– “Firewise Landscapes: Designing for Safety and Sustainability”
– “Lawn Removal and Native Plant Workshops (English and Spanish)”
– “Edible Planting and Seasonal Wreath Making”

Laura Gallegos, Senior Communications Specialist, emphasized, “This new club gives residents a fun, welcoming way to stay engaged all year long. Whether someone is new to gardening or looking to deepen their knowledge, there’s something for everyone.”

Registration for the SCV Water Gardening Club workshops is now open, but space is limited. Residents are encouraged to register early to secure their spots. For the complete schedule and registration details, visit yourSCVwater.com/landscape-workshops.
