Santa Clarita Chamber Honors Local Veterans at Urgent Salute Event

UPDATE: The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce hosted its 15th annual Salute to Patriots event on November 5, 2025, honoring local veterans for their ongoing contributions to the community. The ceremony, held at the SCV Senior Center at Bella Vida, recognized six veterans whose post-military service continues to uplift the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV).

Local leaders gathered to celebrate these everyday heroes, highlighting their dedication and impact. The honored individuals included: Anthony Straight, Vernon Charles Miller, Juan Blanco, Robert Lasher, Sheriff’s Deputy Keith Wells, and Eric White. The seventh honoree, Camille Applin-Jones, was unable to attend and will be recognized next year.

“You are not only defenders of our country, but also the pride of our community,” stated Di Thompson, 2025 chair of the board for the SCV Chamber. The event served as a heartfelt thank you for their “unwavering service” and “profound sacrifice” in safeguarding American freedoms.

Community members were encouraged to nominate veterans who have positively impacted the SCV business community and may not often receive recognition. Ivan Volschenk, president and CEO of the SCV Chamber, emphasized the importance of acknowledging these unsung heroes.

As each honoree was called to the podium, local leaders shared their stories. For example, Robert Lasher, who volunteers at the SCV Food Pantry, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to help others after experiencing personal loss during the pandemic. “It was nice that they were there to help me out and for me to help them out,” Lasher shared, reflecting on the community’s support.

The emotional atmosphere was palpable, especially when Emily White introduced her husband, Eric. She described him as someone who constantly goes out of his way to serve others. “I love that he has a servant’s heart,” she said, highlighting the selflessness that defines many veterans.

Mayor Bill Miranda also addressed the crowd, reaffirming the city’s commitment to support veterans. “This community supports our veterans and always has, always will,” he declared. Miranda urged attendees to recognize the challenges veterans face and to ensure they are treated with respect and fairness.

The Salute to Patriots event not only honored veterans but also united the community in appreciation for those who have served. As the SCV Chamber continues to champion the contributions of veterans, the call for nominations remains open, encouraging more recognition of those who work tirelessly for the betterment of the SCV.

As this event wraps up, community members are reminded to reflect on the sacrifices made by veterans and to consider nominating deserving individuals for future recognition. The impact of their service resonates deeply within the community, making it stronger and more vibrant for all.
