UPDATE: In a stunning display of dominance, the San Jose High football team obliterated the Prospect High Panthers with a score of 46-9 on Friday, October 24, 2025. This decisive victory not only marked a turning point for the Bulldogs but also opened the path for potential playoff contention in the Central Coast Section (CCS).
The game kicked off with a bang as San Jose recovered an onside kick, setting the tone for their explosive offense. Just moments later, quarterback Cypress Funes connected with Omar Gomez for a jaw-dropping 56-yard touchdown. The Bulldogs quickly established their game plan, opting for a relentless ground attack that would see them run the ball 52 times for a staggering 350 yards.
San Jose, now boasting a record of 5-3, 4-1, is eyeing its first CCS playoff berth after years of playing the traditional Thanksgiving rivalry against Lincoln, which previously prevented them from qualifying. Coach Raul Sandoval expressed confidence in his senior-heavy team, stating, “They realize it and want to go out with a bang.” With victories against Evergreen Valley and Mt. Pleasant in their final two regular-season games, the Bulldogs could cement their place in history.
After Gomez’s initial touchdown, the Bulldogs opted for a two-point conversion, taking an early 8-0 lead. Although Prospect managed to momentarily take the lead with a field goal and a touchdown, San Jose quickly regained control. A critical 9-yard run by Gomez put them ahead for good, followed by a second touchdown that extended their lead to 22-9 at halftime.
The Bulldogs continued their relentless assault in the second half, scoring on their opening drive within just ten plays. Another touchdown by Bryan Cortes from 25 yards out, followed by runs from Roman Rodriguez and Agustine Cortes, sealed the deal.
“Our offensive line is strong and has been together for four years,” Sandoval noted. “We know we have the upper hand when we get the ball into the running back’s hands.” Gomez led the charge with 96 yards on 12 carries, emphasizing the depth of the team’s running game.
Prospect, who entered the game unbeaten and atop the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s West Valley Division, struggled to contain San Jose’s double wing offense. Coach Jake Shaughnessy admitted, “They just get in that double wing and pound it down your throat. We just couldn’t execute because they’re really that good.”
As the Bulldogs celebrate this monumental victory, all eyes will be on their next two games as they aim to solidify their spot in the CCS playoffs. The excitement around San Jose High football is palpable, with players and fans alike eager to see if history will be made this season.
Stay tuned for further developments as San Jose prepares for its upcoming matchups, where they aim to continue their winning streak and secure a playoff berth.
