UPDATE: In a shocking crackdown, police arrested nine motorists on suspicion of driving under the influence during a DUI checkpoint in Pacific Beach. The operation, which took place in the 2400 block of Grand Avenue, ran from 10:00 PM on October 26 to 2:30 AM on October 27, 2023.
Authorities from the San Diego Police Department and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office conducted the extensive checkpoint, screening 589 vehicles out of 944 that passed through. A total of 22 drivers were evaluated for impairment. In addition to the nine DUI arrests, one driver faced charges for operating a vehicle while unlicensed or with a suspended license, and ten vehicles were impounded.
Police emphasize that these checkpoints target locations with the highest potential for deterring drunk and drugged driving, thus enhancing safety for both officers and the public. According to officials, this checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, highlighting the ongoing commitment to road safety in the region.
