The third edition of the NEPA Comic Con will take place this weekend, from March 15 to 17, 2024, in Dickson City, Pennsylvania. This year’s event will spotlight the beloved franchise “Star Wars,” featuring prominent guests including actress Christine Galey, recognized for her portrayal of R2-D2, and Susanna Malak, who has appeared in various roles within the franchise.
The convention is hosted at the Days Inn by Wyndham and promises a packed schedule of activities, including meet-and-greet opportunities, a cosplay runway, and an array of art and collectibles available for purchase. According to organizer Eric Kropiewnicki, attendees can expect an atmosphere reminiscent of the iconic cantina scene from the original films.
“It’s just so crazy how people get into all the stuff that they get into,” Kropiewnicki said. “It’s pretty fascinating.” He also owns the Moon Tavern & Entertainment Complex located at the hotel, which adds to the venue’s lively atmosphere.
Cosplayers, individuals dedicated to crafting and wearing intricate costumes, will showcase their takes on “Star Wars” characters among others throughout the weekend. Admission prices range from $5 for an advance ticket on Sunday to $100 for an all-access weekend pass.
Galey expressed her excitement about being part of the “Star Wars” universe, despite not being a fan prior to her involvement. She commented on her experience wearing the R2-D2 costume, saying, “It felt great, just to be R2-D2.” To prepare for her role, she studied the movements of the droid from the original film, enhancing her performance.
Malak, another featured actress, echoed Galey’s sentiments about the unique challenges of costume work. She has portrayed various creatures in both “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.” “There’s been times that I sat there and had to talk myself through it,” Malak stated. “Because I wanted to quit. It’s just claustrophobic.”
In addition to these actresses, voice actor Trevor Devall will also be present, bringing his experience from “Star Wars” animations and other productions to the event.
The weekend kicks off with a special party for weekend pass holders on Friday. Saturday’s activities will run from 11:00 to 19:00, featuring cosplay karaoke later in the evening. Sunday will see events from 12:00 to 16:00.
