NDSU and Dickinson State Launch Urgent Pre-Pharmacy Program

UPDATE: North Dakota State University (NDSU) and Dickinson State College have just announced a groundbreaking pre-pharmacy program aimed at addressing the urgent need for pharmacists in western North Dakota. This historic partnership, revealed on October 29, will provide Dickinson students with access to the essential pre-pharmacy education offered exclusively at NDSU, the only institution in the state with a pharmacy program.

With the demand for pharmacists steadily rising, this initiative is a crucial step to ensure quality healthcare across North Dakota. “We’re providing coverage and making connections with people all across the state. We know that the health of North Dakotans is paramount for what pharmacists need to be focused on, and we’re here to help students do that,” stated Amy Werremeyer, chair of NDSU’s Department of Pharmacy Practice.

Set to launch in the spring, the new program will allow Dickinson students to enroll in a comprehensive three-year pre-pharmacy curriculum, followed by an accelerated pharmacy training program. This innovative pathway provides a unique opportunity for local students to pursue a career in pharmacy without having to relocate.

This collaboration not only enhances educational access but also aims to strengthen healthcare services in the region. As pharmacists play a vital role in community health, NDSU’s initiative is expected to significantly impact the availability of qualified professionals in the area.

As this program rolls out, stakeholders are excited about the potential it holds for future pharmacists and the communities they will serve. The urgency of this development cannot be overstated, as it aligns with the pressing demand for healthcare professionals in rural settings.
