UPDATE: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has just announced the urgent seasonal closure of select roadside parks, starting Monday, October 20, 2025. Travelers planning scenic drives should prepare for closures as MDOT upgrades facilities at three popular parks, drastically affecting fall travel plans.

The closures include the White Cloud Roadside Park on M-37 in Newaygo County, Chase Roadside Park on US-10 in Lake County, and Baldwin Roadside Park, also on US-10 in Lake County. This move is aimed at improving visitor amenities, but it means that these well-loved rest stops will be unavailable for the season.

However, not all hope is lost for autumn road-trippers. MDOT has confirmed that some parks will remain open a bit longer into the fall. The Brown Roadside Park on M-25 in Huron County will welcome visitors until Friday, November 28, 2025. Meanwhile, travelers in Newaygo County can enjoy the White River Roadside Park on M-20 and the High Rollway Park on M-82 until Saturday, November 29, 2025.

For those seeking a late fall getaway, the Manistee River Roadside Park near Manton on US-131 in Wexford County will stay open until Monday, December 1, 2025.

MDOT emphasizes that visitors should not be discouraged, as several roadside parks will remain accessible throughout the winter. Notable year-round options include the White Rock Roadside Park on M-25 in Sanilac County, the Cass River Roadside Park on M-46 in Tuscola County, and the Artesian Flow Roadside Park on M-140 near Watervliet in Berrien County.

Travelers are encouraged to plan their trips accordingly and check MDOT’s official website for the latest updates on park accessibility. With winter approaching, this seasonal closure is a reminder for Michigan residents and visitors to take advantage of the remaining time at these beautiful rest stops.

Stay tuned for further updates as MDOT continues to enhance Michigan’s roadside experience.
