Marjorie Sack Hobday, 95, Passes Away Surrounded by Family

BREAKING: Marjorie Sack Hobday, age 95, has passed away peacefully at her home in Burnt Hills, NY, on October 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. The community mourns the loss of a cherished figure known for her creativity and musical contributions.

Born on April 8, 1930, in Niskayuna, NY, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Kenneth Palmer and Florence Louise (Hollins) Sack. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Richard G. Hobday, and her brothers, Gordon and Kenneth Sack. The Hobdays shared a deep passion for music, actively participating in groups such as the Schenectady Choral Society and Burnt Hills Oratorio Society.

Marjorie’s life was marked by resilience and resourcefulness, traits she developed as a child during the Great Depression. She found joy in gardening and took pride in nurturing beauty both indoors and outdoors. Summers were spent at their cherished camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir, where she first met Richard at a square dance—an encounter that sparked a lifelong love.

The Hobdays’ annual Holiday Art Show Open House became a beloved tradition, showcasing their artistic talents for over 40 years. Marjorie’s grace and creativity enriched her family and community, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Marjorie is survived by her son, Gordon (Carol) Hobday, daughters Wendy (Charles) Haugh and JoAnn (Richard) Massad, and grandchildren including Katherine, Anne, and Zachary, among others. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Lilliana and Maxwell, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a dear sister-in-law.

A Mass celebrating Marjorie’s life will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Episcopal Church, located at 85 Lake Hill Rd, Burnt Hills, NY. Following the service, all are invited to a reception in the church hall. Marjorie will rest with her husband in the church cemetery.
