UPDATE: In a thrilling match on October 25, 2023, the Marin Catholic girls volleyball team has secured their spot in the North Coast Section Open Division championship after a decisive victory over Campolindo. The Wildcats triumphed with a score of 25-21, 23-25, 25-7, 25-16, erasing the sting of their recent defeat in the MCAL final.
This urgent win comes just 12 days after Marin Catholic fell short against Redwood, missing out on a league playoff banner. Now, they are set for the NCS final against Branson, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats, boasting an impressive record of 25-6, are eager to reclaim glory after losing to Branson in last year’s NCS final.
“Suffering any loss like that is so heartbreaking,” said head coach Nick Honrada. “But for us to come back and practice and get better is really great.” Marin Catholic’s resilience paid off as they maintained an eight-match home win streak leading into the final.
Star performances from players like sophomore Carolina Delaney, who notched 20 kills, and senior Krystal Huff, who contributed 15 kills and several crucial defensive plays, propelled the Wildcats past Campolindo. Huff emphasized the importance of energy and focus, stating, “I told myself this is my last year… I was going for everything.”
Despite a slow start, Marin Catholic quickly regained control in the match. After falling behind early, the Wildcats surged ahead with a remarkable seven-point streak, largely fueled by powerful serves from junior libero Aubrey Marne. The Wildcats dominated the third set, with Huff leading the charge to a commanding 15-5 lead.
The stakes are high as Marin Catholic prepares to face Branson again, a team they split matches with this season. With the last encounter fresh in their minds, the Wildcats are eager to turn the tables this time on their home court.
As the Wildcats gear up for the championship, the anticipation is palpable. Fans are encouraged to rally behind the team as they aim to turn their previous heartbreak into a triumphant victory this Saturday. With the pressure mounting and the stakes higher than ever, all eyes will be on Marin Catholic as they chase redemption.
Stay tuned for further updates as the championship approaches, and make sure to catch the action live!
