UPDATE: A serious tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 205 near Mountain House has caused a complete freeway closure and severe traffic disruptions this afternoon. The accident occurred around 1 p.m. when the truck, loaded with a mix of gasoline and ethanol, jackknifed, leading to hazardous conditions.
Authorities report that the tractor-trailer was towing two tankers, one of which overturned, spilling approximately three gallons of the flammable liquid. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed that the driver escaped injury, but emergency responders faced significant challenges due to the nature of the spill.
Firefighters from Alameda County were able to contain the leak effectively. CHP Officer Tyler Hahn stated that hazmat personnel recommended maintaining a safe distance of at least 1,000 feet from the spill site while pumping out the remaining fuel.
