UPDATE: Local holiday markets are set to kick off this weekend across Boulder County, offering unique, handmade gifts just in time for the festive season. The Boulder County Farmers Markets’ Winter Market will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 6-7 at the Boulder County Fairgrounds, located at 9595 Nelson Road, Longmont.
This year’s market promises to be bigger than ever, featuring over 150 local farmers and artisans. “It’s our mix of food vendors, producers, and artists, all together under one roof,” said Liz Thomas, senior markets manager for Boulder County Farmers Markets. The event emphasizes a strict “producer-only” model, ensuring that every product is made locally, highlighting the importance of community support.
Shoppers can expect a lively atmosphere filled with delicious food, artisan crafts, and engaging activities. The market will include a tractor photo booth, an ugly sweater contest, and a scavenger hunt with prizes for kids and families. “This is a moment for vendors and shoppers alike to connect before the long winter,” Thomas added, reinforcing the value of supporting local businesses in an age dominated by online shopping.
Additionally, the Niwot Holiday Native Art Market is set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 30 at Niwot Hall, 195 2nd Ave., Niwot. This one-day event features 15 Indigenous artists showcasing a range of traditional and contemporary works, including jewelry, pottery, and digital art. Hosted by Thunder Wolf Native Arts & Culture, the market aims to build lasting support systems for Indigenous artists and educate the local community about their history and culture.
As holiday shopping ramps up, these local markets serve as a vital alternative to impersonal online shopping. They provide opportunities for genuine interactions between shoppers and makers, where gifts are not just products but stories and connections.
With the holiday season officially underway, now is the time to shop local and ensure your gifts are made with intention and care. From handmade ornaments to fresh produce, Boulder County’s holiday markets are the perfect places to find special items for your loved ones.
Mark your calendars for these must-visit markets and participate in keeping the spirit of local craftsmanship alive this season! Don’t miss out on the chance to make meaningful connections while shopping for one-of-a-kind gifts.
