Layton Police Seek Suspect in Violent, Unprovoked Gas Station Assault
The Layton Police Department is urgently searching for a man involved in a sudden and unprovoked attack against a dog walker in front of a Chevron gas station on Hill Field Road and Antelope Drive. The assault occurred during the evening hours on April 28, shaking a community known for its generally peaceful streets.
Lieutenant Clint Bobrowski confirmed the incident after police received a 911 call from the victim, who sounded desperate and was reportedly running away while asking for help. “The victim stated that while walking his dogs, he was approached by an unknown male who was visibly upset and screaming,” Bobrowski said.
Shocking Surveillance Footage Reveals Assault in Progress
Surveillance video captured part of the attack, showing a man in a green hoodie sprinting toward the victim and attempting to kick one of the dogs. A physical fight broke out as the suspect punched the man, who defended himself as one dog bit the assailant. The violence escalated when the victim tried to pull out a knife for self-defense, but the suspect managed to knock it out of his hands while fleeing the scene.
The suspect then ran off toward the nearby Quail Cove Apartments with the stolen knife. Police classify this as an assault against both the human victim and his dogs, as well as theft of the knife.
“This seems to be an isolated event,” said Lieutenant Bobrowski, emphasizing that there is no ongoing threat to the public. “Unprovoked attacks like this are rare in the area.”
Despite the rarity of such violence, the attack has rattled local residents. “I walk my dog all hours of the night around here and have never experienced anything like this,” said Ko-Ko Kabwasa, a Layton resident. “It’s scary to see what the world has come to.”
Police Appeal for Public Help to Identify Suspect
Layton Police are appealing to the public for assistance. They urge anyone who recognizes the man in the video to contact them at 497-8300 and reference case L26-10572. Authorities advise the public not to approach the suspect if spotted.
This alarming event serves as a reminder that even areas with low crime rates can experience sudden violence. The community’s safety remains a top priority, with officers increasing patrol presence around Hill Field and Antelope in response.
