Jason Eisner’s Art Exhibition Closes April 24 at St. Ambrose University

URGENT UPDATE: St. Ambrose University’s Morrissey Gallery is hosting the dynamic exhibition “Living Collection: Works on Paper by Jason Eisner,” set to close on April 24, 2024. Art enthusiasts have just days left to experience Eisner’s captivating pieces, reflecting his vibrant life and artistic journey.

This exhibition showcases works that Eisner describes as “found out of the corner of the eye and drawn while on break, sitting in the grass.” The artist’s unique perspective merges his experience as a horticulturalist and his lifelong passion for art, creating a poignant narrative that resonates with viewers.

Location: Morrissey Gallery, 2101 Gaines Street, Davenport, IA. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and admission is free, making this an accessible opportunity for all to engage with Eisner’s art.

Eisner, originally from Illinois, has been living in New York City for over 30 years. He holds a BA from Knox College and a Painting Certificate from the New York Studio School. He currently works at the Green-Wood Cemetery and Arboretum in Brooklyn, an expansive 500-acre landscape that features a living collection of over 8,000 trees, shrubs, and plants. This unique environment deeply influences his artistic output.

The exhibition raises thought-provoking questions about the nature of artistry. As press materials highlight, “When does one become an artist? When does an artist make art?” Eisner embodies the role of an artist, drawing inspiration from everyday moments, blending his dual careers seamlessly.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Visitors are encouraged to experience these works before the exhibition ends on April 24. The gallery offers a rare chance to witness Eisner’s artistic evolution, which is closely tied to his experiences in nature and his professional life.
