Hillsborough County Launches Urgent Food Pantry Events for Holidays

UPDATE: Hillsborough County is taking swift action to combat food insecurity this holiday season, launching critical food pantry events in partnership with Feeding Tampa Bay. These initiatives aim to provide immediate relief to residents who are struggling to celebrate the festive season due to financial hardships.

The first of these urgent food distribution events will occur on November 16, 2023, at the Lee Davis Healthy Living Center. The following day, on November 17, 2023, both the Plant City and SouthShore Healthy Living Centers will host similar events. These gatherings are open to the public and are designed to ensure that everyone, regardless of income level, can access nutritious food and celebrate the holidays with dignity.

This initiative is not just about handing out food; it’s a comprehensive effort to enhance the health and wellness of the community. Residents can expect food packages filled with fresh produce, meats, and essential pantry items, distributed monthly, with additional support during the peak holiday months.

The Healthy Living Program emphasizes that anyone aged 18 or older can utilize these services, highlighting a commitment to making nutritious food accessible to all. In addition to food distributions, the program will offer free access to exercise rooms and group fitness classes, alongside nutrition consultations and educational classes at four Healthy Living Centers across Hillsborough County.

As the community gears up for the holiday season, the Healthy Living Program’s approach reflects a deep understanding of the challenges many face. They are not alone; additional resources such as ECHO, the United Food Bank of Plant City, and the St. Anne Catholic Church Food Pantry stand ready to provide crucial food and clothing assistance throughout the county.

Residents are encouraged to take part in these vital food pantry events. For more information, the Healthy Living Program is available for inquiries via phone or in-person visits. This initiative is a crucial step in ensuring that no one in Hillsborough County goes hungry this holiday season, offering hope and support to those who need it most.
