BREAKING: A 21-year-old Hialeah man, Kevin Brito Rios, has been charged with vehicular homicide following a tragic head-on collision that left one person dead. The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. on Monday near W. 20th Avenue and W. 76th Street, according to reports from NBC6 South Florida News.
Authorities confirm that Brito Rios was driving recklessly, clocked by police at an alarming 80 mph in a 30 mph zone. Just moments before the fatal crash, an officer attempted to pursue Brito Rios’ 2022 Toyota Supra after witnessing his dangerous maneuvers, which included weaving through traffic and overtaking other vehicles.
As the pursuit progressed, Brito Rios lost control while attempting to navigate a curve, veering into oncoming traffic. His vehicle collided head-on with a Ford Mustang. The impact was devastating, prompting immediate transport of the driver and passenger of the Mustang to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital. Tragically, the unidentified driver succumbed to their injuries the following day.
Data extracted from the Mustang indicates that Brito Rios’ vehicle was traveling at a minimum speed of 54 mph just before the collision, despite being in a 35 mph zone. Following the crash, Brito Rios remained at the scene and was later arrested at his apartment by Hialeah police.
