UPDATE: The Hermon Hawks have just secured a critical victory, defeating the Cony Rams 60-47 on Tuesday night, and maintaining their position at the top of the Class B North standings. Coach Mark Reed praised his team’s toughness and focus on defense. “We just really worked hard, made it hard on that side of the floor,” Reed stated post-game.
Coach Isaiah Brathwaite of Cony acknowledged Hermon’s strategic play, noting, “They sucked the air out of the ball on offense.” The Rams, now 7-2, struggled to adapt to Hermon’s methodical pacing, which proved to be a game-changer.
Freshman standout Carter Brathwaite led the Rams with 16 points, while senior Parker Morin added 12 points. On the other side, Hermon guard Carter Wiggin dominated the scoreboard with 23 points, showcasing his ability to control the game.
As the third quarter unfolded, Hermon began to pull away, with a crucial and-one play from Wiggin that pushed their lead to 32-29. Kinney’s offensive rebound and put-back extended the lead to 39-31 by the end of the third quarter. The Hawks maintained their momentum, stretching their lead to as much as 15 points in the final minutes, demonstrating remarkable composure under pressure.
“Our kids played with incredible toughness tonight,” Reed added, highlighting the team’s discipline and focus. With this victory, the Hawks boast an impressive record of 8-1 and solidify their status as a top contender in the league.
Looking ahead, Cony will need to regroup and reflect on this experience as they prepare for their next games. Coach Brathwaite emphasized the importance of growth, stating, “We’ve got a lot of growing up to do.” Fans can expect more exciting basketball as the season progresses.
