URGENT UPDATE: Garbage and recycling collection in Fargo has been delayed due to dangerously high wind speeds, impacting scheduled pickups initially set for December 18, 2023. Residents are advised to have their bins out by 8 a.m. Friday for collection, weather permitting.
As wind gusts disrupted operations, eight garbage trucks and three recycling trucks commenced their routes at 8 a.m. but halted around 12:30 p.m. due to unsafe conditions. The strong winds caused many bins to topple over, forcing crews to expend additional time stabilizing and emptying containers.
Jen Pickett, recycling supervisor for the city, expressed frustration over the delays. “Well, it’s frustrating and really time-consuming, because eight out of the ten cans on the street are probably tipped over,” she stated. “So that means they are jumping out to stand it up, empty it, and then move on and so on and so forth.”
This disruption not only affects garbage collection but may lead to further delays if weather conditions do not improve. Residents whose trash and recycling were not picked up on Thursday should ensure their bins are accessible for the rescheduled collection on Friday morning.
Stay tuned for updates as conditions evolve. The city urges all residents to remain safe during these high winds and to monitor local news for the latest developments.
