URGENT UPDATE: A deadly shooting in East Oakland has left a 32-year-old man dead, marking the city’s 66th homicide of 2025. The incident unfolded on Friday night at approximately 9:20 p.m. in the 2800 block of 35th Avenue, according to local authorities.
The victim was shot outside and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Oakland Police have confirmed that a gunshot detection system alerted them to the incident, but details about the suspect remain unclear. There has been no official word on a motive, and authorities have yet to release the victim’s name or his place of residence.
This tragic event is particularly alarming as it represents the second homicide in less than 24 hours in the city. Earlier that morning, at 3:15 a.m., a 28-year-old man was fatally shot and another individual was injured in a separate incident in the 1600 block of Solano Way, located in the San Antonio district.
As of now, the city has seen a distressing rise in violent crime, with 78 homicides recorded by this same time last year. The spike in violent incidents raises significant concerns for community safety and prompts urgent calls for increased police presence and intervention.
