New Hampton Girls Soccer Advances Above .500 with Key Victory
The New Hampton Chickasaws girls soccer team surged above the .500 mark this week with a commanding 4-1 victory over Washington at the Denver Tournament, showing balanced scoring and critical defensive efforts that kept momentum alive as the season quickly nears regional play.
The win boosted New Hampton’s record to 5-4, signaling solid progress in a competitive season. Four different players found the net, underscoring the team’s diverse offensive threat. Junior Kimber Dungey and freshman Amelia Uribe each tallied their fourth goal of the season, while freshman Brynlie Anderson and senior standout Tegan Dungey—who now leads the team with 10 goals—also scored.
Goalkeeper Vanessa Salas, a sophomore, contributed an impressive four saves to preserve the favorable margin, demonstrating composure and athleticism in goal.
“It feels good to see the players rewarded for their effort and growth. They’ve been training with purpose, and today they showed confidence, composure, and a real commitment to our style of play,” said New Hampton head coach Fayssal Talib. “Wins are always great, but seeing the team improve and trust each other — that’s the best part.”
Mixed Results at Denver Tournament Highlighted by Tough Loss
The Chickasaws’ tournament weekend began on a harsh note with a dominating 10-0 loss to the No. 3 ranked host Denver Cyclones. Despite the shutout, freshman goalkeeper Rylie Rochford made four saves, keeping New Hampton competitive despite the scoreline.
Earlier in the week, New Hampton blanked Postville twice this spring, winning 4-0 in a recent matchup where Kimber Dungey scored twice, senior Tegan Dungey added another, and Keziah Uglum marked her fourth goal of the season. The Chickasaws had bludgeoned Postville 8-0 in April, showing consistent dominance over the Pirates.
However, New Hampton faced a setback against Clear Lake with a 3-1 loss where Tegan Dungey netted the lone goal and Salas registered a season-high seven saves keeping the team in contention.
Most recently, the Chickasaws honored their seniors during Senior Night against Decorah, celebrating leadership and team spirit as they head into the crucial final stages of the season.
Season Outlook and Regional Play Ahead
With the Chickasaws now above .500 and displaying multi-player scoring, the team carries renewed energy into the upcoming regionals. New Hampton’s balanced offense, led by goal-scoring leader Tegan Dungey, and strengthened defense anchored by Salas, position them as a team to watch as the spring season closes.
The Denver Tournament served as a critical measuring stick, exposing areas for growth in defense while highlighting offensive depth, a key factor in New Hampton’s quest for postseason success.
Fans and Montana-area sports enthusiasts should keep a close eye on the Chickasaws as they prepare to make their push toward regional titles and beyond, with every match now carrying heightened stakes.
