BREAKING: The Bismarck girls basketball team has officially claimed their first MAAA Small School championship since 2009, defeating Arcadia Valley in a thrilling game that ended 63-56 on Thursday evening in Ironton. The Lady Indians showcased remarkable resilience, overcoming multiple foul troubles to secure a crucial victory.
Senior guard Halie Dickey led the charge with a game-high 23 points, including critical plays in the final minutes that helped her team to maintain a narrow lead. The victory marks a significant turnaround for Bismarck, who had lost their previous five encounters with Arcadia Valley.
The match was filled with intensity as both teams battled fiercely. Bismarck’s Kinsey Hubbs made pivotal contributions, displaying strategic plays under pressure that protected their lead in the final moments. With this win, Bismarck improves to 17-4 overall and remains undefeated in conference play at 3-0.
As the game progressed, Arcadia Valley’s defense tightened, generating three steals in quick succession; however, they were unable to capitalize on those opportunities, leaving Bismarck to maintain control. Braelyn Turnbough of Arcadia Valley led her team with 17 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Bismarck’s tenacity.
With less than a minute remaining, Bismarck’s Halie Dickey hit a crucial three-pointer, pushing the lead to 53-48. Despite a late surge from Arcadia Valley, including a three-pointer from Turnbough, Bismarck held their ground, ultimately sealing their victory with successful free throws.
Bismarck’s head coach, Logan Blunt, praised his team’s composure under pressure, stating,
“This team has shown incredible character throughout the season. They fought for every point tonight.”
In the aftermath of this significant win, Bismarck will face West County to make up their postponed conference game. This victory not only ends a lengthy title drought but also sets the stage for an exciting postseason as both teams head into district tournaments.
