UPDATE: Over 530 individuals were arrested in October during a focused operation targeting domestic violence offenders, Dallas police confirmed at a news conference on Tuesday. The initiative, known as Operation Safe Families, was launched to address the alarming rates of domestic violence as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux announced that the operation specifically aimed at apprehending offenders with outstanding domestic violence warrants and those actively perpetrating offenses. “This is something we’re going to continue to focus on year-round,” Comeaux stated. “We’re committed to bringing justice to those who deserve it.”
During the operation, authorities reported a total of 539 arrests, with a significant number involving repeat offenders or felony charges, categorized as “high profile.” Lt. Ashley Lee, overseeing the department’s domestic violence unit, noted that the department handles approximately 14,000 domestic violence cases annually, with 11,167 cases worked this year alone.
In a bid to protect victims, police refrained from disclosing specific details about the arrests. “We want you to come forward and collect these services,” Lt. Lee emphasized. “It’s our primary goal to protect you and your families.”
