Fairview Football Dominates Arapahoe in 5A Playoff Showdown

In a commanding performance on November 14, 2025, the Fairview Knights triumphed over the Arapahoe Warriors with a stunning score of 78-28 in the Class 5A playoff second round at Recht Field. This victory marks a significant achievement for Fairview, which has historically struggled in the postseason due to a weaker regular-season schedule.

The match began with a tightly contested first quarter that saw Arapahoe briefly leading 21-15. However, momentum quickly shifted in favor of Fairview, driven by the exceptional play of junior quarterback Ki Ellison and senior wide receiver Sabi Ruttgers. Ellison showcased his versatility, throwing for 311 yards and adding 115 rushing yards, while Ruttgers amassed 244 yards and scored five touchdowns.

“I always knew I was good, but this honestly proved it to myself and honestly the state too,” Ruttgers stated after the game. “Everyone was told it’d be a real close game, and we came out here and mercy-ruled them. It’s insane.” He added, “We might have the best receiving core in the state.”

Ellison’s performance was complemented by senior standout Toray Davis, who contributed three touchdowns. Additional scores from teammates Asher Allen and Ryan Rutherford further solidified Fairview’s dominance.

As the game progressed, Fairview’s offense continued to shine, leading to a first half that ended with a 36-21 advantage. Notably, Fairview’s defense also made critical stops, including recovering a fumble that allowed Arapahoe to take an early lead and halting the Knights on a fourth down attempt.

The turning point came when Fairview blocked a punt, leading to a quick 16-yard touchdown pass to Davis. Ellison further extended the lead with an interception, showcasing his defensive skills as he stepped in as a safety for the first time this season. “I was just ready. I knew the quarterback liked to stare it down,” Ellison explained, reflecting on his interception.

Davis capped an impressive defensive display with an interception at Fairview’s 9-yard line as the first half concluded. The Knights’ ability to capitalize on both offensive and defensive opportunities proved decisive in their victory.

Looking ahead, the Fairview Knights will face the top-ranked Cherry Creek team at Stutler Bowl next week. Coach Tom McCartney expressed respect for their upcoming opponent, acknowledging the competitive nature of the Cherry Creek league. “There’s such a hunger for victory, and you really want to play the best teams,” he said. “Let’s show everybody when we play great teams what we can do.”

Fairview’s convincing win against Arapahoe not only demonstrates their offensive prowess but also raises expectations as they advance further into the playoffs. The Knights’ performance this season suggests that they are a formidable contender, regardless of their previous schedule.
