Taz the Dog Finds New Home After Long Wait at Shelter

A six-year-old Boxer and Bullmastiff mix named Taz has found a new home in Massachusetts after being abandoned last December. Taz’s journey from a shelter to a loving family highlights the ongoing efforts of local rescue organizations, including Lucy’s Doggy Daycare and Spa and God’s Dogs Rescue.

Abandoned on Christmas Eve in 2023, Taz spent months waiting for a permanent home. His previous owner left him at Lucy’s Doggy Daycare and Spa and never returned. The facility has been fostering dogs since 2010 and has a reputation for helping animals in need, often pulling pets from the euthanasia list at the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services.

Rescue and Adoption Efforts

Taz’s story is part of the “Forgotten Friends” series, which aims to bring attention to animals that have been overlooked in shelters. According to Hannah Snyder, Marketing Coordinator and Customer Experience Manager at Lucy’s, many dogs, including Taz, have been rescued and given a second chance at life. “Taz is a spunky and smart individual,” she said. “He loves to play fetch and already knows how to sit, shake, and lay down.”

Weighing about 59 pounds, Taz is considered “fun sized” for his breed. His mixed heritage means he is somewhat smaller than the average Bullmastiff, which typically has a more robust build. The American Kennel Club describes the Bullmastiff as “fearless at work, docile at home,” and Taz embodies these traits, combining them with the affectionate nature of a Boxer.

While Taz gets along well with other dogs, he may not be suitable for homes with cats due to his high prey drive. He thrives in active environments and would do best with older children who can handle his excitable nature. Taz is already neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations, ensuring he is ready for his new family.

Community Support and Adoption Process

For those interested in adopting Taz, Lucy’s Doggy Daycare and Spa is offering a free “Glow Up” Day at the Spa for new pet owners, which includes a massage therapy bath and a Pawdicure. The adoption fee for local residents is $200, while out-of-state adopters will pay $450, which covers transportation costs.

“Taz has a heart of gold and energy to match,” said God’s Dogs Rescue. They emphasize his friendly demeanor and compatibility with people and other dogs, making him an ideal companion for active families. Taz would thrive in a home where he can share his playful spirit while also enjoying downtime as a cuddle buddy.

Interested individuals can visit Taz at Lucy’s Doggy Daycare and Spa, located at 937 S. Laredo St in San Antonio. The facility is open Monday to Friday from 06:30 to 20:00 and on weekends from 08:00 to 18:00. Other locations are also available, offering various services for pet owners.

By adopting a pet like Taz, not only do families gain a loyal companion, but they also help create space for other animals in need at shelters. Lucy’s Doggy Daycare and Spa encourages potential adopters to consider the impact of their decision, as adopting a shelter pet can save two lives—the one brought home and another that can be rescued in its place.
