On January 27, 2026, the United Way of the Blue Mountains announced the appointment of Rainbow Maldonado as the new senior advancement officer for the Oregon Region. Maldonado will spearhead efforts aimed at enhancing community engagement across several counties, including Umatilla, Morrow, Union, Baker, and Wallowa.
Extensive Experience in Community Leadership
Maldonado brings over 30 years of diverse experience in community leadership, nonprofit management, and advocacy. She has been a longstanding supporter of the United Way, having served the organization in various capacities throughout her career. Expressing her commitment to the mission, Maldonado stated, “United Way’s mission resonates deeply with me. I have always been guided by a calling to serve others, and this opportunity aligns perfectly with both my personal values and professional goals.”
In her new role, she aims to strengthen partnerships and advance initiatives that promote community well-being across Eastern Oregon. Her career includes significant leadership positions in both the nonprofit and business sectors, during which she founded and led her own nonprofit organization, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Education and Community Commitment
Academically, Maldonado holds a Bachelor of Science in political science with a focus on advocacy from Idaho State University. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in public administration, concentrating on state and local nonprofit administration. This educational background complements her extensive hands-on experience in community service.
Residing in Pendleton with her husband, Maldonado enjoys outdoor activities, attending her children’s collegiate soccer games, and spending quality time with her family, including her first grandchild. Her dedication to fostering healthier and more resilient communities is evident in her volunteer work and advocacy efforts.
