Polk County Historical Association Launches Revolutionary War Series

The Polk County Historical Association (PCHA) will launch a series of programs dedicated to the Revolutionary War as part of the America 250 initiative. The series begins on January 20, 2026, at 14:00 in the Polk County History Museum, with a focus on the Battle of Earle’s Ford. This significant event unfolded during the summer of 1780, when British forces launched an assault on a substantial camp of American patriots in what is now known as Polk County.

The American victory at Earle’s Ford played a pivotal role in the Revolutionary War, laying the groundwork for subsequent battles, including the Battles of Kings Mountain and Cowpens. These engagements were crucial in the broader context of the struggle for independence, ultimately contributing to the American triumph.

Local historian James Metcalf will host the January program, providing insights into the battle’s historical significance and its impact on the war. The program promises to be a valuable opportunity for attendees to learn about this lesser-known yet important chapter in American history.

The Polk County History Museum, along with the House of Flags Museum, is situated at 33 Gibson Street, directly behind the historic Polk County Courthouse in downtown Columbus. The public is encouraged to participate, as admission to the program is free.

This series is part of a broader effort to engage the community in discussions about the Revolutionary War and its relevance today. By spotlighting key events like the Battle of Earle’s Ford, the PCHA aims to foster a deeper understanding of the historical narrative that shaped the nation.
