Macomb County Resident Wins $1 Million Lottery Prize

A Macomb County resident has won an impressive $1 million prize from a Michigan Lottery instant ticket. The 60-year-old man, who has chosen to remain anonymous, initially believed he had won $5,000 when he purchased a King Cashword ticket. Upon further inspection, he discovered he had actually matched ten words, securing the much larger prize.

The man purchased his ticket from a self-serve machine located at a Kroger store at 16450 25 Mile Road in Macomb. “I bought my ticket out of a self-serve machine and scratched it off,” he explained to the Michigan Lottery. “At first, I thought I won $5,000, and then I found another word to make ten for a $1 million prize. It was awesome! Winning feels like a huge blessing and means I can retire earlier than I planned.”

Upon claiming his prize, the winner opted for a one-time lump sum payment of approximately $693,000 instead of taking the full amount through annuity payments. He indicated that he plans to set aside this windfall for his retirement, allowing him to enjoy a more secure financial future.

The King Cashword game, which launched in June 2025, features three top prizes of $1 million. After this latest win, two of those prizes remain unclaimed, highlighting the ongoing excitement surrounding the game and the potential for future winners.

The Michigan Lottery continues to encourage players to participate, as stories like this one serve as a reminder of the possibilities that come with playing.
