The Kannapolis Police Department has announced key promotions within its leadership ranks. Arthur Reid, Jr. has been promoted to the position of Sergeant, while Dale Burris has been elevated to Lieutenant, both within the Patrol Division. The announcement was made earlier today by Police Chief Terry Spry through the city’s official communications.
Arthur Reid, Jr. began his law enforcement career as a Patrol Officer in 2016. His rapid advancement through the department demonstrates his dedication and capability. Reid has held multiple roles, including that of a Field Training Officer and a member of the Felony Investigations Unit. His accomplishments include earning the rank of Master Police Officer and receiving both a Unit Commendation and an Individual Commendation for his exemplary service during a homicide investigation in 2024.
Reid’s qualifications are backed by significant professional training, with more than 1,800 hours completed. He has obtained an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate and holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Everest University. Beyond his professional achievements, he is recognized for his commitment to family and community, serving as a devoted spouse and father, and is an alumnus of Concord High School.
In addition to Reid’s promotion, Dale Burris has been named Lieutenant. Burris has been with the department since 2011, where he has taken on various responsibilities, including serving as a Field Training Officer and participating in both the Honor Guard and the Special Response Team. His extensive training includes over 3,800 hours of professional development, and he has earned a Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Certificate from the North Carolina Justice Academy.
Burris, originally from Mount Pleasant, holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Rowan Cabarrus Community College. His dedication to service was recognized in 2013 when he received the Roger Dale Carter Memorial Service Award. As a twin and the son of Roy and Sherri Burris, he embodies a strong family commitment alongside his professional life.
These promotions reflect the department’s ongoing commitment to leadership development and community service, enhancing its operational effectiveness in Kannapolis.
