Community Unites for “Camouflage Cancer” Fundraiser in Clarkston

A community-driven fundraiser aimed at supporting families affected by pediatric cancer will take place on July 15, 2023, in Clarkston. The “Camouflage Cancer” event, organized by pediatric cancer survivor Bryson Stein, will help alleviate travel and related expenses for families navigating the challenges of medical treatment for their children.

Stein, now 22 years old, founded the Bryson Stein Foundation two years ago after experiencing the financial burdens associated with his own battle against synovial cell sarcoma, which he was diagnosed with at age 13. “Every dollar we raise goes to families dealing with pediatric cancer,” Stein stated. His foundation aims to provide essential support, covering costs such as travel and lost income during hospital visits.

Co-founder of the foundation and vice president of the board, Kacey Jackson-Way, is urging community members to participate. “Our upcoming event is more than a night out,” Jackson-Way emphasized. “It’s a night that brings hope, resources, and strength to children battling cancer right here in our community.”

Tickets for the event, priced at $75 per person, must be purchased in advance through the foundation’s website by July 12. The evening will feature a presentation, dinner, and a silent auction, all designed to raise funds for those affected by pediatric cancer.

Stein’s journey to establish a foundation was inspired by a notable event in his life when his pig sold for an impressive $100,000 at the 2022 Asotin County Fair. This significant amount helped cover his cancer-related costs and sparked the idea of creating a legacy focused on helping others. During a bear hunt with Jackson-Way, the concept of starting the foundation was born, highlighting his desire to assist families in similar situations.

Jackson-Way expressed her commitment to Stein’s vision, saying, “I am truly honored to help him leave a legacy that should help families for many, many years to come.” She added that while she hasn’t been successful in getting him a bear, she was determined to help him make a meaningful impact in the community.

The event will take place at the Holiday Inn in Clarkston, running from 17:00 to 21:00. Attendees are encouraged to wear casual clothing, with camouflage attire optional but welcomed.
