On November 26, 2025, the Union Station Homeless Services (USHS) organized a Thanksgiving meal event at their Adult Center located at 412 S. Raymond Blvd in Pasadena, California. This initiative aimed to provide warm meals to those in need within the community, highlighting the spirit of giving during the holiday season.
The event attracted numerous volunteers, including actress Adina Porter, who served alongside local dignitaries such as Laura Friedman, a Representative from Burbank, and Pasadena Councilmember Jessica Rivas. The gathering also featured contributions from community leaders, including Jim Wong, the Pasadena Housing Director, who joined efforts to ensure a successful meal service.
David Lee Roth, the former lead singer of Van Halen, demonstrated his support by donating significant funds for the event. Contributions included $25,000 from the Green Foundation and $15,000 from Bigo Live. These donations played a crucial role in the distribution of meals, underscoring the importance of community support in addressing food insecurity.
During the event, attendees had the option to enjoy their meals on-site or take them to-go. This flexibility allowed families and individuals to share the Thanksgiving spirit in their own homes. As rising grocery prices and cuts to federal food benefits continue to challenge many, the USHS has maintained a commitment to not turn away anyone seeking assistance.
Porter, who attended on behalf of Feeding America, expressed her gratitude for the organization’s efforts. Having lost her own home in the Eaton fire earlier this year, she remarked, “I wish we didn’t live in a world where there was so much food insecurity, but I’m beyond grateful that there’s an organization like Feeding America that is fulfilling a need.”
The meals served during this Thanksgiving event included traditional staples, all prepared by USHS staff and volunteers. No identification was required for guests to receive their meals, reflecting the organization’s mission to foster inclusivity and support.
Laura Friedman commended the hard work of volunteers and staff, stating, “I am thankful for all the volunteers and staff that have helped make this year’s meal service a success, as well as all the families that come out to celebrate with us.”
The Thanksgiving goodwill extended beyond Pasadena, with additional community service efforts taking place in nearby Altadena. Kathryn Barger, Los Angeles County Supervisor, led her annual Day of Giving, which included various initiatives such as meal distribution for seniors and support for Eaton fire survivors.
Volunteers worked on a Habitat for Humanity home in the Eaton fire burn area, aiming for completion before Christmas. Barger has hosted the Day of Giving for eight consecutive years, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to community service.
The USHS has been a staple in the Pasadena community for over 50 years, ensuring that no one is turned away from their Thanksgiving meals. As the need for support grows, particularly in light of rising costs and food insecurity, events like these highlight the resilience and compassion of the community.
As the holiday season approaches, the efforts of organizations like the USHS and dedicated volunteers continue to make a significant impact on the lives of those facing hardships, reminding everyone of the importance of community and support.
