Community Celebrates Life of Kevin Ortenblad with Open House

Kevin Harlowe Ortenblad, aged 69, passed away on October 17, 2025. The community will gather to celebrate his life during an Open House on October 25, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Assembly of God in Willmar. The event will feature popcorn, cookies, and coffee, reflecting his warm and inviting nature. Attendees are encouraged to wear their best or worst camouflage apparel, a nod to Ortenblad’s fondness for such clothing.
Ortenblad, born on January 26, 1956, to Harlowe and Jean (Anderson) Ortenblad in Willmar, graduated from Willmar High School in 1974. He married Julie Zimmer on June 21, 1974, and together they cultivated a loving family while farming east of Raymond for over three decades, raising five children.
A significant transformation in Kevin’s life occurred during a men’s retreat on March 3, 2000, when he embraced his faith in Jesus Christ. This pivotal moment fueled his passion for encouraging others and sharing his faith. In 2008, Kevin and Julie sold their farm and established Sanctuary, a ministry retreat center in Buena Vista, Colorado, dedicated to rest and renewal. They returned to the Willmar area in 2016, continuing their commitment to their family and community.
Kevin’s legacy is carried on by his beloved wife, Julie Ortenblad, of New London, and their children: Kara Elliott of Somerset, Wisconsin; Kressa and Marcel Bieg of Eugene, Oregon; Mandy and Aaron Larson of Wayzata; Melody and Brian Dengler of Woodstock; and Erick and Jeanna Ortenblad of New London. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, who brought him immense joy: Kevin, Riley, Afton, Elsa, Thea, Addiline, Jocelyn, Lilia, Tillie, Nels, and Jonathan.
Ortenblad’s life was characterized by unwavering faith, deeply rooted in the scripture of Romans 8:38-39, which emphasizes the inseparable bond of love from God. His commitment to sharing this message left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
As family and friends prepare to honor Kevin’s memory, they reflect on the joy he brought into their lives, marked by his infectious smile and laughter. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his legacy of love and encouragement will continue to inspire those he touched. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar, and memorials can be sent to PO Box 142, New London, MN 56273.
