This holiday season, the CNY Diaper Bank is calling on the community of Liverpool, New York, to contribute to a vital cause aimed at supporting local families in need. The organization is inviting community members, local groups, and businesses to make monetary donations to help provide essential diapers for families experiencing economic hardship.
Individuals interested in contributing can make secure donations online at cnydiaperbank.org/holidaymatch2025. To enhance the impact of each contribution, the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation has pledged to match donations made up until January 1, 2026, for a total of up to $5,000. Each dollar donated can supply a day’s worth of diapers for one local baby.
Addressing Diaper Need in the Community
According to Michela Hugo, founder of the CNY Diaper Bank, nearly half of families with young children experience diaper need. “When so many families are unable to afford their most basic needs, it is a glaring sign that our system must change,” she stated. The challenge of diaper need is exacerbated by low wages and rising living costs, forcing parents to make difficult choices.
The CNY Diaper Bank aims to support families while advocating for policies that ensure no parent has to choose between diapers and essential needs like food. Despite being a fundamental necessity for infants, diapers are not covered by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or the Women, Infants, and Children benefits. The cost of providing an adequate supply of diapers for a single child can reach approximately $100 per month, which is unaffordable for many families.
“Community members can make a positive impact for families this holiday season by donating to help us provide diapers and prevent diaper need,” Hugo added. The efforts of the CNY Diaper Bank are critical as they serve as the largest diaper bank in New York state, collaborating with a network of partner agencies to distribute an average of 200,000 diapers each month to about 4,000 local babies and toddlers.
A Growing Commitment to Families in Need
Since its establishment in May 2016, the CNY Diaper Bank has successfully distributed over 11 million diapers to families in need. The nonprofit was created to assist social service organizations in the Syracuse area, becoming a member of the National Diaper Bank Network. Its mission is to ensure that all Central New York families have access to an adequate supply of diapers while raising awareness about the issue of diaper need within the community.
