Christian Heritage Lions Secure Playoff Spot with 42-7 Win

The Christian Heritage Lions concluded their regular season with a commanding victory over the Armuchee Indians, winning 42-7 on October 27, 2025. This triumph secures their eighth consecutive playoff appearance, finishing the season with a strong overall record of 7-3 and a region record of 6-1. Armuchee finished the season winless at 0-9, hampered by injuries throughout the year.

The game, held in the Lions’ Den, showcased a dominant performance from the Lions. They quickly established control, scoring 35 points in the first half, which led to a running clock in the second half. The Lions’ defense set the tone early when junior defensive end John Stanley recovered a fumble on Armuchee’s second snap of the game.

Christian Heritage’s first touchdown came with just under nine minutes left in the first quarter. Freshman quarterback Charlie Baxter connected with senior tight end Benji Michmerhuizen on a 21-yard touchdown pass, followed by a successful extra point kick from junior kicker Luis Salinas, putting the Lions up 7-0.

The Lions capitalized on another turnover shortly after, as senior strong safety Cooper Middleton intercepted a pass, although it was negated by a pass interference penalty. Nevertheless, the Lions’ defense remained relentless, forcing Armuchee into a fourth down situation.

With six minutes left in the first quarter, Henry Hill scored on a 19-yard rushing touchdown, extending the Lions’ lead to 14-0. Shortly after, Middleton forced another turnover, recovering a fumble and scoring on a 15-yard touchdown run, which was followed by another successful PAT from Salinas, bringing the score to 21-0.

Armuchee’s defense made a notable play late in the first quarter when senior linebacker Cason Wade sacked Baxter, but the Lions remained undeterred. Baxter later connected with freshman wide receiver Jacob Tatum for a 58-yard gain, although the Lions were unable to capitalize due to a fumble.

The Lions continued their offensive onslaught into the second quarter. Baxter threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Kyric Rockholt, and despite a penalty that nullified a potential long touchdown run by sophomore running back Harrison Murdock, Baxter eventually scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown. With Salinas’ PAT, the Lions led 35-0 before halftime.

In the second half, the Lions maintained control. Backup quarterback Beau Moore entered the game and scored on a 17-yard rushing touchdown, capping the team’s score at 42 points. The Lions’ defense continued to shine, with Middleton and Murdock contributing to several key tackles.

Armuchee managed to score their only touchdown late in the game when senior running back Devyn Davis rushed into the end zone, followed by a successful extra point kick from senior kicker Dimitri Castro.

This victory over Armuchee marked the Lions’ second consecutive win against the Indians, following a 45-26 victory in 2024. With this win, Christian Heritage secured a second-place finish in the final standings of Region 7-A D1, while Gordon Lee took the top spot after finishing the region schedule undefeated.

Baxter completed 16 of 22 passes for 247 yards, ranking fifth in the state for total passing yards with 2,406 this season. Hill led the rushing attack with 54 yards on five carries, while Tatum contributed significantly with four receptions for 87 yards.

Reflecting on the game, Terry expressed his satisfaction with the performance, stating, “I was just so happy I got to make a fumble recovery. Being a lineman, it’s hard to make something like that, so when you get the opportunity, it’s always great.” Baxter, feeling optimistic about the upcoming playoffs, noted, “We feel good going into the playoffs and I’m hoping to see who we play.”

As the Lions prepare for the playoffs, their determination is evident. Terry believes in their potential, stating, “We’ve got to keep training well and give it all on Friday nights.” With the playoff schedule yet to be announced, the Lions are eager to continue their journey and build on their successful season.
