Beloved Family Man Virgil Wayne Whitwell Passes Away at 84

Virgil Wayne Whitwell, aged 84, of Bonne Terre, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, at Mercy South in St. Louis. Born on February 25, 1941, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Virgil A. and Veral (Chandler) Whitwell. His life was characterized by love, passion, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.

Virgil was a devoted family man who cherished the moments spent with his loved ones. He created countless memories, demonstrating the importance of familial bonds. His passion for classic cars showcased his appreciation for craftsmanship and storytelling, allowing him to connect with others who shared similar interests. Additionally, Virgil found immense joy in the companionship of his beloved dogs, which brought warmth to his life.

Career and Legacy

Virgil had a long-standing career with Teamsters Local #610, dedicating many years to his work before retiring. His strong work ethic and commitment were hallmarks of his character, earning him respect and admiration from colleagues and friends alike. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia (O’Brien) Whitwell; two grandchildren, Thomas and Timothy Niccum; a brother, John Stallings; and his stepfather, Clete Stallings.

He is survived by five children: Vickie Ramsey and husband Rickie, Cheryl Mitchell and husband Dan, Betty Niccum and husband Jody, Michael Whitwell and wife Alicia, and Matthew Whitwell and wife Kristin. Virgil’s legacy extends to his grandchildren, including Deanna Hite, Paul (Makayla) Ramsey, Daniel (Bree) Mitchell, Josh Mitchell, Dawn (Bryan) Rankins, Savannah Ivie, Chelsea (Jeremiah) Vandergraph, Jacob, Logan, and Mackenzie Whitwell, along with Amanda, Ryan, Warren, and Amelia Whitwell. He also leaves behind twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Final Farewell

Visitation services will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge on October 23, 2025, from 17:00 to 20:00. A continuation of the visitation is scheduled for October 24, 2025, from 9:00 AM until the service begins at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Russell Dotson officiating. Interment will follow at Bonne Terre Cemetery.
